ISDN services

  • Dial up ISDN modem connection

For users with PPP accounts on Mlb.Planet there is no additional charges for using an ISDN modem to connect to Mlb.Planet
However, normal time and data charges will apply in line with the type of account currently active with Mlb.Planet.
Before attempting to connect to Mlb.Planet with an ISDN modem arrangements need to be made to enable this type of connection.

  • Business and Commercial ISDN connection

For companies or anyone else with a registered domain name the isdn costs are: The basic cost of an ISDN connection is $50 per hour a day for a month. i.e.
up to 1 hour a day is $50/month
up to 2 hours a day is $100/month
up to 3 hours a day is $150/month
up to 4 hours a day is $200/month
above 4 hours a day is counted as a full time connection and costs $250/month
Note: that for all of the above rates that an ISDN channel is NOT reserved at Mlb.Planet for the connection (this could mean a busy signal at peak times)

For a full time (permanent) ISDN connection where an ISDN channel is reserved at Mlb.Planet (guaranteed connection) then there is an additional cost of $150/month for reserving the ISDN channel(s). This gives a total monthly cost of such a connection as $150+$250 = $400.
Mlb.Planet will normally reserve one 64K ISDN channel for such customers. ALthough a Telecom Basic Rate ISDN has two 64K channels the second will only be opened by Mlb.Planet if the data load on the first channel exceeds 90%. When the load drops below 40% the second channel is closed.

Normally the ISDN charges will include all additional services including email, usenet newsfeed, domain name services, internet routing and allocation of a subnet of IP numbers, all NZ internet traffic and up to 200megs of international traffic per month for a full time ISDN connection (ie $400/month connection).
After this 200megs then international traffic costs $400 per gigabyte. For other connections the free international data is:
    $50/month 30megs of internatiobal traffic
    $100/month 65megs of international traffic
    $150/month 100megs of international traffic
    $200/month 140megs of international traffic

  • ISDN dialback service

Mlb.Planet can provide ISDN dialback services. This allows a customer site to appear to have a permanent (Digital Data Circuit type ) connection to the internet. The initial call and dialback sequence takes a fraction of a second and is quick enough to prevent an incoming connection from another internet site from timimg out (e.g. an incoming enquiry to a web server or incoming email etc..).

  • Centrex ISDN connection

Mlb.Planet can offer Centrex ISDN connection to customers in the Tauranga Telecom exchange area.
All such connections are considered permanent as Mlb.Planet can initiate a connection to the customer site and kkep the connection open without incurring a 5c/minute connection charge from Telecom.
An existing customer ISDn can be converted to Centrex, however, this will rewuire Mlb.Planet to take over the Telecom account for that ISDN.
Often it is more simple for Mlb.Planet to have Telecom install a new BRA (Basic Rate Access) and for this to be paid for by Mlb.Planet.
With this type of Centrex installation Mlb.Planet passes on the Telecom installation and monthly rental charges to the customer (in addition to the normal Mlb.Planet ISDN charges) For example a Centrex ISDn connection to Mlb.Planet from the central Tauranga area would cost $400/month for Mlb.Planet Internet connection and ISDN channels PLUS $150/month for the BRA at the customer premises. There would be no Telecom per minute connection charge. The only additional charges may be for international data in excess of 200 Megabytes per month.

  • Flat Rate Centrex ISDN connection

A new service recently introduced by Mlb.Planet is the flat rate ISDN connection. The cost for this is $1725 per month.
Mlb.Planet providing an ISDN circuit to the customer premises (Centrex ISDN),
A permanent 64K ISDN connection to Mlb.Planet, with the second 64K channel being available on demand,
Mlb.Planet provides a Cisco 1003 router for connection to customer network,
All national and international data included,
A subnet of up to 32 IP numbers is allocated,
    All routing and dns services,
A usenet news feed, (up to 24,000 newsgroups are available)
    Other ancillary services as required,
Mlb.Planet provides technical and installation support.

  • Dial-up PPP modem connection

With full time and Centrex ISDN connections ($400/month accounts), Mlb.Planet provides a free modem dial up PPP account. This can be used at any time to test ISDN connections or as an offsite dial-in to the internet.
Additional modem dial up PPP accounts can be provided by arrangemnt.
Data used by such an account is added to the data volumes used by the main ISDN account.

  • ISDN routers and modems

We can provide advice and consultancy on suitable ISDN hardware for making a successfull ISDN connection to Mlb.Planet. Although almost any NZ Telecom certified modem will connect successfully to Mlb.Planet's Cisco modem server this is not always the case with ISDN routers.

Major brand routers usually have no problems and will have been tested in NZ using Telecom ISDn circuits. ISDN routers from 3Comm, Cray, Zyxel, Cisco and Motorola are all known to work successfully.
