The long awaited link upgrade was implemented today.
A new 128K circuit was installed between Blenheim and KCCS in Auckland and
all testing was completed today with a cutover to the new circuit just after
4pm. There was about 5 minutes downtime while cables were transferred to
the new NTU.
Although this new link doubles the capacity of the previous link it should
actually provide more than twice the bandwidth that was available to
dial up users. This is because the usenet news feed takes a steady 15 to 20
Kbits of available bandwidth for most of the day.
