Mlb.Planet server telehousing

UPDATE

The facility located in Blenheim has now been closed. We can provide telehousing service in a server room in Auckland.

Mlb.Planet can provide customer server telehousing services.
This is a service where a customer's computer is located at MLB.PLANET and is directly connected to the Mlb.Planet LAN. The computer room at Mlb.Planet is an air-conditioned secure environment with UPS power supply.

The cost of this service is $150 per month per server (computer) and this includes all national data and up to 100 megabytes per month of international data to/from the server. The server is allocated an IP number from the Mlb.Planet Class C network.
For servers pre-paid at $250 per month the international data included in the price is increased to 400 megabytes.
After this amount international traffic costs $400 per gigabyte.
NOTE: There is no installation charge for telehoused computers.

A telephone line connected directly into a serial port on a telehoused server can also be provided. There is an additional charge per month of $30 plus the Telecom monthly cost of the telephone line at Mlb.Planet. This will be about $60 per month for a Centrex Business telephone line.
This gives a total of $90 per month for a private telephone connection to a telehoused server.
Note that the customer can either supply the modem to be used at the Mlb.Planet end of the dial up link or Mlb.Planet can provide a CTL rack mounted 33k6 modem for an additional $15 per month. CTL modems will be maintained by MLB.PLANET.
Normally MLB.PLANET prefers to use a CTL modem for dial in connections to telehoused servers. These rack mounted modems are very relaible and require minimal supervision and almost no maintenance.

For multiple servers or terminal servers the rates per month are negociable depending on the level of services required and estinated data volumes.
Contact David Dix to discuss these options.

Telehoused servers are expected to require bare minimum supervision and the hardware/software should be reliable and not require any regular maintenance attention from Mlb.Planet staff. Servers should also be able to automatically reboot in the event of a power failure.
If additional hardware items are needed to enable a server to reboot successfully (eg keyboard) then these should be provided with the server at installation time.

Mlb.Planet is able to provide a UPS power connection for a telehoused server although this will incurr and additional $25/month charge. Customers can supply their own UPS for connection to their server(s). There is no additional charge for housing such UPS.

Access to cutomer telehoused servers is by prior arrangement. For security reasons keys and access codes are not issued to owners of telehoused servers. In an emergency access can be arranged but for normal system maintenance where a technician needs to get physical access to a sever then this has to be pre-arranged. Normally seven days notice of access requirements are needed.

Telehoused equipment must be insured against loss by the owners of the equipment. Evidence of suitable insurance arrangements will be required before a server can be installed on the Mlb.Planet local area network.
